Pretty consistent off marks in the 40s this season without managing to reach the first three, Barnhill Rose got her turn in the O'Neill & Co. Chartered Apprentice Handicap.

Siobhan Rutledge sat handy all the way on the Mayson filly who was third passing the two furlong pole. Ridden to lead a furlong out, she stayed on well to beat Cleveleys by three parts of a length. Stormy Jenn and Tashim completed the frame.

Winning trainer Denis Hogan said: “I’m delighted for the man that owns her, Pat Kelly. He’s persisted with her for a good while and she ran well last time in Bellewstown.

“Siobhan gave her a lovely ride. We were worried that the mile might stretch her but she took her back a bit when there was plenty of pace and used her head. Top marks to Siobhan and that’s her first ride for us. It’s unfortunate for Sean Bowen who is suspended.

“She is in again on Saturday at Gowran over seven so she might go there.”
