Bagber may have been easy to back for his hurdling debut in the face of support for Princeton Plains but the market got this one wrong as the former quickened up well on the run-in to convincingly land the opening Tetratema "Son Of The Tetrarch" Maiden Hurdle at Gowran.
Paul Townend, in the colours of Scots-man Allan McLuckie, carried with distinction before by the likes of Holy Orders and Deutschland, got the successful son of Diktat to change gear from the back of the last and beat Princeton Plains (held every chance).
Willie Mullins trains the ex-Peter Monteith five-year-old.
Winning owner McLuckie was on hand and he said: "I'm from Ayrshire, 25 miles south west of Glasgow. The late Peter Monteith bought him so this win is for him.
"I have 2 others with Willie, Deutschland and Inspector Clouseau so that's why I sent this fellow over too.
"He was a bit novicey at a few jumps today but you'd have to be quite happy with that for his first run over hurdles."
