The Michael Halford-trained Asbury Boss stayed on best to claim the concluding amateur contest at Listowel this afternoon, giving the Kildare handler a double on the card. Wakea was sent off 5/6 favourite for the 1m6f contest and looked to be in control turning for home.
Katie Walsh got a good tune from Asbury Boss, however, as he stayed on to claim the market leader inside the final furlong. Weather Watch also finished well to get up for second and press the winner close home, getting within half a length.
"They went a good gallop everywhere and my fella is lazy but loved the ground and had some good form in his past races,” said Walsh.
"He responded well and stays and gallops."
