Lightnin Hopkins (noseband) comes to 'do' Bronte with Toccata Blue chasing at Fairyhouse© Photo Healy Racing
Harlem Shake represented Sean Jones and Ger Lyons with a deal of credit when third in the Fairyhouse opener. Half an hour later the owner and trainer went a couple of places better with Lightnin Hopkins (Colin Keane up) in the Family Day Sunday 14th July Handicap.
The front-running Bronte looked like she might be able to maintain her advantage from the quarter mile pole but she was reeled-in close home by Lightnin Hopkins, and beaten half a length. Quinine had a mountain to climb when checked in rear with over two furlongs left to race. However, that Dark Angel filly came home with a 'wet sail' to finish a closing rapidly further half a length down in third at the line.
"He's a gorgeous looking horse – typical of his sire, Kodiac.
"He never had his ground last year and won on ground he hated.
"I thought he'd need the five pound claim (apprentice Keane's allowance) to do that.
"The horses are running well and long may it continue," reflected Lyons post race. (AM & EM)
