Norther Bay bounced back to his very best as he took the feature race on today's card at Listowel the Kevin Broderick Memorial Handicap Chase for trainer Eoin Griffin and jockey Robbie Power.
The 8yo son of Alamo Bay had won three times before today, winning his maiden hurdle in Down Royal in August of '07 before following up in a valuable Novice event at Tipperary a month later.
He went back to Down Royal to win his Novice Chase in August of last year but following a few disappointing efforts since he bounced back to his best here to win by three and a half lengths at 8/1.
The winner soon led the field and continued to do so until four from home where he was headed by Dundrum However he came back again at the second last, led approaching the last and was ridden clear from there to score from the 4/1jfav Armaramak with Dundrum a further two and half lengths back in third.
Winning trainer Eoin Griffin said afterwards: "I’m delighted with him. He got a heavy fall the last day at Fairyhouse. Robert (Robbie Power) gave him a lovely ride as he is not the easiest to ride. He can be very free and Robert gave him a breather and let Dundrum go on.
"He will be kept on the go now and fingers crossed he can pick up another one".
This was Griffin's third winner since Thursday, having saddled St Devote at Tipperary on Thursday and Moi Desire at Kilbeggan yesterday.
The other 4/1jfav Wickham Street finished last of the eight runners for Tommy Stack & Alan Crowe.
