Another Derby for Bolger Following on from Chance To Dance in the Cork Derby and Wexford Town last Saturday in the Ulster Derby, Jim Bolger supplied another winner in a race with a big title when News At Six captured the Done Deal Apprentice Derby. The win was bringing up a nice priced double at the Curragh for Bolger, after Feach Ar Agaidh's win under Kevin Manning earlier. Ronan Whelan, fresh from a Hamilton success for Pat Shanahan on Maid Of The Glens last night, donned the Mrs Judd colours here on the handicap first-timer who was encountering a sound surface for the initial occasion in a race. The 20/1 chance got the better of the two big fancies, Karezak and Captain Teemo, inside the final furlong to triumph by a length and a half and two and a quarter lengths. "That's three Derbys we've won this year and I don’t think anyone will break that record," quipped Bolger. He added: "I don't know what happened him the last day – he didn't run very well. "He's always worked well. He's in the July Sales now and he'll probably go there." S. Corby, rider of Ebadani, trained by M.Halford, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount ran short of room after the turn into the straight. C.P. Hoban, rider of Kabjoy, trained by Mrs John Harrington, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount got tight for room in the home straight and had to check. (GC & EM)
