Alpha Ridge suffers heart attack on gallops

Alpha Ridge, a general 12/1 chance for next week's Goffs Thyestes Chase, collapsed and died of a heart attack when doing some excercise on trainer Paul Nolan's gallops this morning.

The Glacial Storm gelding won four times over hurdles including the Grade 2 Galmoy Hurdle at Gowran Park but never quite lived up to expectations over fences.

He filled the runner-up spot behind Pandorama in the Grade 1 Drinmore Novice Chase at Fairyhouse in 2009 but failed to win over fences, finishing second on six occasions in all.

The ten-year-old got this season off to a promising start when beating all bar the talented Last Instalment at Galway before failing to make much of an impression on his only subsequent run behind Bog Warrior in the latest renewal of the “Drinmore”.
