Cheltenham Gold Cup-winner Gavin Cromwell enjoyed a chance of luck with J M’s Joy’s (11/2) success in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Spring Series Fillies Maiden at the Curragh today, hours after the retirement of his leading mare Limerick Lace.

Ridden by Gary Carroll, experienced J M’s Joy today battled to a 1.5 lengths win over Adrienne with promising newcomer Sound Of Lightning finishing third.

Cromwell commented “it wasn’t the plan to make the running, and I thought she was going a fair gallop. Over the trip I wasn’t sure whether she’d stay but she was gutsy, and she did.

“She was fit, had the run and it’s a nice pot to win (first prize of €15,000).”

Cromwell’s earlier market-favourite Joyful Tidings was withdrawn having bolted on the way to post for the opening juvenile maiden and regarding him, added “he’s grand. It was just one of those things and thankfully everybody is ok.”

The retirement of the J.P. McManus-owned Limerick Lace, winner at the 2024 Cheltenham festival and a sister to Cromwell’s Gold Cup winner Inothewayurthinkin, had also been announced this morning.
