All eyes drawn to Eastwatch in Gowran Eastwatch (11/10f) slammed his rivals with an authoritative display in the three-year-old colts and geldings maiden at Gowran Park. Andy Slattery's charge had been seen on a racecourse once before when finishing third in a maiden at Tipperary in October. Ben Coen had him tracking Paul Henry in a close second and sent him about his business coming to the final quarter of a mile. The response was impressive as he widened his lead inside the final furlong and galloped home strongly to open up by nine lengths. Kingstonian came home a remote second at 10/3 and was three-and-a-half-lengths clear of Joe Cool (20/1). Slattery said: “He’s a big baby, he’s 16.3hh, so he could be for Australia or the Triumph Hurdle but we’re going for a handicap at Royal Ascot. “He’s still very raw and I won’t run him for six or eight weeks. I’ll give him a chance, a big horse like him. “He’s been working very well with Sunchart, I’d put him in that kind of level. “I wouldn’t run him on quick ground. He’ll go on it, but is a big horse and I wouldn’t run him on it. It’s grand, safe ground out there today.” Additional reporting by Alan Magee
