Aintree Grand National pointers

* The previous four winners have all carried at least 11 stone.

* Nine-year-old and 10-year-old horses have a good recent record winning eight of the last 10 renewals.

* A key stat that holds for the last 10 years has been that the winner had at least one top three finish in his last three races.

* The last 10 winners had all won over at least three miles in their career before taking the National.

The Aintree Grand National is the most valuable jumps race in Europe and has a total prize fund this year of £975,000. The winner receives £547,267.50.

Irish jockey Katie Walsh will make history by becoming the first female to win the race if leading fancy Seabass is successful. The pair finished third last year.

The going at Aintree as of this morning is Good to Soft, Good in places.
