Unsurprisingly there is plenty of Irish interest on day two of Aintree's Grand National meeting, with almost 30 raiders making the trip to Liverpool on Friday.

We have picked out three of the most interesting Irish-trained runners to watch, including two for Gordon Elliott who will be looking to bounce back from Cheltenham Festival

Dancing City - Aintree 1.45 @ 5/1 with William Hill

Willie Mullins’ Dancing City was a little disappointing in the Brown Advisory Novices' Chase at Cheltenham but that performance is unlikely to be a true reflection of his ability.

He had previously looked a novice chaser of note when winning his first two starts over fences this season, jumping particularly well when winning a Grade 3 at Naas in January.

Dancing City won the Grade 1 Sefton Novices’ Hurdle at this meeting last season, when he finished more than five lengths ahead of subsequent Grade 1-winning chaser The Jukebox Man, so he is no stranger to Aintree and the form of that success is rock-solid.

British-trained pair Handstands and Caldwell Potter head the market but it would not be a surprise if Dancing City bounced back to his best and added another top-level success to his record.

Romeo Coolio - Aintree 2.55 @ 5/4 with William Hill

Smart bumper horse Romeo Coolio confirmed the promise he showed in that sphere when bolting up in a maiden hurdle at Down Royal in November.

It was therefore a tad disappointing when he was beaten in the Royal Bond at Fairyhouse next time out but he left that form well behind when winning at Leopardstown over Christmas, emerging from the fog to win a Grade 1 by nine lengths.

Romeo Coolio lost nothing in defeat behind exciting novice Kopek Des Bordes in the Supreme at Cheltenham last time out, and he doesn't have a rival of that quality to contend with on Friday.

The six-year-old is undoubtedly the one to beat and is fancied to come out on top.

    Jacob’s Ladder - Aintree 4.40 @ 9/2 with William Hill

Jacob’s Ladder won a bumper on decent ground in good style in November, so he should have few issues with underfoot conditions at Aintree on Friday.

He improved significantly for the step up to 2m4f at Navan in January, when he got off the mark over hurdles at the second time of asking. Gordon Elliott’s six-year-old narrowly beat Forty Coats that day and he went on to finish fourth in the Turners Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham at a massive price.

Jacob's Ladder took another step forward to win a Grade 3 at Naas in February and further progress could be on the cards on Merseyside.

Three miles should be well within his compass and a bold bid for Grade 1 honours looks assured on Friday afternoon.
