There’s little doubt that Jake Coen’s services will be in great demand this winter at Dundalk and the talented 7lb claimer got another winner on the board (a sixth already having only started his season in late August) when Accessory (7/1) landed the second split of the BetVictor Casino Handicap.
Pat Flynn ’s recent Cork winner sat close to the pace under Coen as California Poppy and the loose Beleaguerment (unseated Shane Foley from stalls) led the field into the home straight.
Accessory and the well-fancied Ampeson (from 25s this morning into 9/1) came through to dispute the lead a furlong out as the front-runner could find no more and it was the former who was half a length in front at the line.
The 3/1 favourite Rosie Rock was another three quarters of a length away in third.
Coen said afterwards: “He's a tough horse. I took a lead into the straight, a furlong-and-a-half down I got to the leader and when he got there he was just pricking his ears a bit. I always felt like I had it inside the final furlong.
“I'm delighted with the way things are going, I'm riding loads and getting winners as well so it's all going great.”
