A beaten favourite last time Shamiyna atoned in the Irish EBF Supporting Irish Champions Weekend Fillies Maiden at Killarney.

Racing on testing terrain for the first time in her four race career, the daughter of Sea The Stars seemed to enjoy conditions as she accounted for market leader Lugnaquilla by two and a half lengths.

In the hands of Oisin Orr Shamiyna raced in the rear of mid-division, before making headway on the outer early in the straight.

Pushed along to lead a furlong and a half out, Dermot Weld’s charge was ridden to assert and and she kept on well inside the final furlong, to comfortably achieve success.

Weld had landed the previous heat with Mere Catherine in the hands of Dylan Browne McMonagle, and of course he also bred Juddmonte International hero Ghaiyyath, at his Springbank Way Stud at Pollardstown on the Curragh.

That 200-acre farm is managed for Weld by his son Mark.
