A 4th of the day for Elliott as Energy makes winning start for the Browns Following on from Farouk D’alene, Envoi Allen and Duffle Coat earlier, there was a fourth winner on the day for Gordon Elliott when Chemical Energy triumphed under Jamie Codd in the Rainbow Communications INH Flat Race at Down Royal. Having looked promising when winning at Roscommon last month when racing for the Crocodile Pockets Syndicate, the Well Chosen gelding was here beginning for Andrew and Gemma Brown. Codd again took the reins though, and when the Wexford man asked for more in the final quarter mile the response was impressive. The 10/11 favourite went away to beat On Eagles Wings (11/8 second favourite) by eight lengths. “Jamie (Codd) is mad about him and he has a great attitude,” said Elliott. “He’s only four and a baby. We might just leave him for the spring and some of those better bumpers. “I liked the way he stayed there, he is a real stayer. I think faster ground will suit him. He might not be a horse for heavy, heavy ground but all those festivals you don’t want heavy ground. “He jumps brilliantly and we schooled him for a point-to-point but we decided to run him in a bumper instead.” On Duffle Coat at Wetherby, he said: “He was very good, I just watched a re-run of it. “He doesn’t do anything fancy at home and he’s not the biggest horse in the world. “A great day — to train four winners, I can’t complain.” Reflecting on Down Royal, he said: “Queens Brook did everything bar win and Abacadabras was beaten by a good horse. Jack said he will come on from the run. If they all won, it would be very easy!” (MG & EM)
