What a start to the flat turf campaign for Jim Bolger. After four races at the Curragh, the Wexford man (the Model County hurlers and footballers were both beaten today) has sent out three runners and they've all won at combined odds of over 73/1.
Kevin Manning rode Saburo and Caesaria but it was Rory Cleary that got the chance to shine on the maiden, Rehn's Nest in the Group 3 Lodge Park Stud European Breeders Fund Park Express Stakes and the Athlone man took his opportunity with both hands.
The successful Authorized filly was always on the pace and the concession of 19Ibs proved too much for the slightly uneasy favourite, Yellow Rosebud (4/7 out to 8/11). There was a length and three parts between the pair at the line.
Bolger commented: "She gets through the ground which is a big help. She's never had faster ground but I don't think she's that ground dependent.
"I have her in the Oaks and I think she'll get a mile and a half. Her dam is by Galileo and she was one of the first winners for Galileo."
