3 first past posts for Fenton's Shraheen Philip Fenton and 7Ib conditional Niall Moore combined to land the Dornan Careers Novice Handicap Hurdle at Leopardstown courtesy of the Thomas Coleman-owned Shraheen. Backed from 8/1 into 5/1, the successful five-year-old made in three-in-a-row after victories at Kilbeggan in June (disqualified subsequently - banned substance) and Tipperary in November with a two length verdict over Cloonainra. Here Shraheen was never far away, leading two out and keeping on well up the run-in to keep all comers at bay. “The race didn't exactly go to plan. He wasn't to be as handy as he was but his jumping over the first couple took him there and I suppose he had to commit him then after that,” said Fenton. “He's a big horse and he's improving, he's certainly going the right direction. “Being by Mount Nelson, they generally want a bit of nice ground but he's from a good family who have won in all sorts of ground. “He looks like a nice horse, he's a lovely big chaser. “We'll might have a go at another festival with him.” M.P. O'Connor, rider of Love Me (FR), trained by Henry de Bromhead, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount stopped quickly from the second last. The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Addragoole, trained by Gavin Cromwell, at the request of the Raceday Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal. Prior to the off time of this race, the Raceday Stewards delayed proceedings owing to deteriorating visibility (fog). Following a delay, they were satisfied to allow racing to continue. The Clerk of the Course, Racecourse Manager, Judge, Doctor, Riders and Trainers Representatives and a Racecourse Veterinary Surgeon were consulted prior to the decision being made. This race had an off time of 14.30. (GC & EM)
