Henry De Bromhead, on the scoresheet twice at Down Royal courtesy of Never Complain and Riviera Sun brought up a 54/1 across the card treble when An Dearthair Og (13/2 into 4/1 joint favourite) won the McGuinness Lambert Auctioneers Novice Handicap Chase at Wexford under Andrew Lynch.
In truth this bottom-weight was looking pretty good from a fair way out and he eventually prevailed by five and a half lengths from Decade Player
Lynch commented: "He is a nice horse, and he has plenty of potential. It has just taken him a while to get the hang of things over fences.
"He jumped super today, but he would be more suited to a bigger, galloping track. He is a half-brother to An Cathaoir Mor (Irish Arkle winner in 2010), but he will need to improve a lot to be as good as he was."
Owner of An Dearthair Og, Owen Byrne is from Kilmeaden in County Waterford.
The Stewards requested a report from Henry de Bromhead, trainer as to the apparent improvement in form of An Dearthair Og, placed first, as compared with its recent form.
The trainer reported that today's drying ground conditions in what he felt was a moderate contest, had brought about today's improved performance. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the explanation offered.(DM & EM)
