Willie McCreery and Billy Lee completed a 27/1 double in race three at Tipperary, their Ostatnia coming out on top in the Connolly's Red Mills Handicap. Dolce Strega did the needful for the trainer and rider in race one, and here Ostatnia was prominent throughout, keeping on well in the final furlong for a length and a half verdict over the well-backed Master Speaker (13/2 into 4/1).
"She is strengthening up the whole time and I'm delighted with that," stated McCreery.
"Like all sprinters she needs to get 'an arse' on her, and strengthen up, and the blinkers helped her concentrate. She's very honest but can be away with the fairies at times and is very laid-back for a sprinter.
"Her owner Stephen (McCarthy) wouldn't let me enter her in the Group sprint on Champions Weekend, but in fairness we'll see what the handicapper does with her before making plans."
The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Great Wide Open trained by Charles O'Brien, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.
