1st reserve proves Betterthanalright A winner at Thurles in the past, first reserve Betterthanalright was always likely to be a factor if getting a run in the Molony Cup Handicap Chase. Adams Wood's defection on account of being lame, paved the way, and local runner Betterthanalright took his opportunity in style under Kevin Sexton. The victorious Cloudings gelding, without success since going back-to-back in February 2012, has been hinting that a return to the number one spot was in the offing, with his performances in recent times. Sexton, taking the reins on the eight-year-old in a race for just the second occasion, set out his stall on the 12/1 shot from an early stage, as they made just about all. Liam Casey's charge was being challenged by Treacy's Star, when that one got two out wrong, and he was soon clear on his way to a seven length dismissal of the favourite, Its The Ice I Like (beaten when hitting the final obstacle). Andrew J.McNamara, rider of Pocketfullapennies trained by Ross O'Sullivan, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount felt lame and was pulled up. (TW & EM)
