'Better trainer' helps Nailed On Nina gain maiden win Delighted winning owner/breeder Peter Mooney was in self-deprecating mood following the win of his Nailed On Nina in the @Tipperaryraces Apprentice Handicap at Tipperary today as his filly made a winning debut for her new trainer Pat Martin. The daughter of Tough As Nails was unplaced in three maiden starts when trained by Mooney as a juvenile in 2017 but today made a winning debut for trainer Martin, when scoring a length and a quarter success under jockey Killian Leonard. Afterwards Martin said “Peter (Mooney) had done all the hard work and we have her about a month. He thought she was pretty well handicapped and she is a nice big filly”, at which point owner Mooney interjected 'and she's with a better trainer now!'” Martin then added “Peter had five in training but had other business commitments and wasn't able to do everything. He was coming over to us for swimming and things like that and we built up a relationship and it has gone grand. He is a lovely man to train for.“ “We were a little concerned the ground had dried out a bit but she got away with it. “Killian said she battled well when she needed to and it's a great start. We had our first runner for Peter last night and we didn't get out of the stalls so this is the other side of the game!”
