GALANT FERNS was left with too much ground to make up last time but there was no repeat here as she made it third time lucky, showing what a good mare she is in the process. She will now get a break until the autumn.

The third foal of winning hurdler, Galant Tour, that Riberetto-sired dam is out of a half-sister to Cheltenham Gold Cup hero, Cool Dawn. All that augurs well for GALANT FERNS? future as a jumper.

SMOKING ACES is a smart prospect too. His rider dropped his whip early in the straight but the Thurles winner seems to possess a very good attitude as he kept going well to be a length and a half down at the line. He has it on breeding as well, being a half-brother to the very useful Roll Along with Nathen Lad and Charter Party also in that family. He should stay well given all that but he also has a change of gear.

THE BISHOP LOONEY was the one for money in early trading and he made a good debut. JUST FRIENDS didn?t appear to have any excuse but THE BOOK THIEF as a point-to-point winner out of that good staying chaser, Inch Rose, did as well as could have been hoped for. JOE ROE hung badly in the back straight, hung in behind another runner, stumbled and came down fell independently.
