The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Rogue Trader, trained by T.J. Taaffe, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal. The Stewards interviewed J.M. Moore, rider of The Mooch, winner, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion J.M. Moore was in breach of Regulation 10 3 (f) in that he used his whip with excessive force and frequency, and having taken his record into account, they suspended him for 3 racedays. B.J. Geraghty, rider of Rogue Trader trained by T.J. Taaffe, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount made a bad mistake at the second fence, never travelled thereafter and was pulled up. J.W. Kennedy, rider of Kates Benefit trained by David Kenneth Budds, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount hung right after the 2nd last fence and was pulled up. B.M. Cash, rider of Mr Cosmopolitan trained by J.T.R.Dreaper, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount jumped poorly and was pulled up.

An extended handicap steeplechase for five yrs old and upwards (123 = 11st 10lb)
Weights - Top weight in the original handicap; shall not be less than 11st 10lb
Penalties - Winner of a steeplechase after calculation of the handicap to carry 6lb extra for each such steeplechase won. Any horse rated above 123 shall initially be treated as having that rating and the highest weight allotted shall be 11st 10lb. Subsequently, the excess over 123 in any rating shall be added to the weight allotted to that horse. (For the purpose of this note, any five year old rated above 123 shall have the applicable weight for age allowance then prevailing deducted from the horse's rating prior to the original calculation of the handicap)
