Alex is very, very good in those amateur races. I thought he would run a big race. He has been a horse that has caused us a lot of headaches since we got him. I don't bet, but I lost money on him in his first bumper! That's how much he showed us. Obviously, he likes the surface and we just have him in a good vein of form. He was just too slow for a mile and a half. Funny just before the race, I looked up Lingfield on Good Friday and there's a two-mile race. We might bring a few boxes (Mulgrave) and put him in. He is unexposed and it wouldn't be a bad shout. He'll love the surface and travels like a dream. He is entitled to have a crack at it but might not get into it. Mr J.L. Gleeson, rider of Dancing Tango, trained by Joseph Patrick O'Brien, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount hung left down the back straight and likewise in the home straight

At the request of the Raceday Stewards, Mr E.P. O'Brien, rider of Last Ammo, trained by Richard John O'Brien, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount unavoidably clipped a heel when horses ahead of him began to drop back

The Raceday Stewards enquired into an incident in the straight involving Dancing Tango, ridden by Mr J.L

Gleeson, placed fifth, and Burren Song, ridden by Mr A.P. Ryan, placed fourth, where it appeared that Dancing Tango made an inward manoeuvre and made contact with Burren Song. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. In his evidence, Mr A.P. Ryan stated that he had straightened his mount before the incident which happened quickly and contact was made. Mr J.L. Gleeson stated that his mount had been hanging and he initially tried to challenge up the stand side but he thought he had enough room to his left and did not expect his mount to go out on Burren Song. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards found Mr J.L. Gleeson was in breach of Rule 214 in that he had ridden carelessly. Having considered his record in this regard, the Raceday Stewards suspended Mr J.L. Gleeson for one raceday

The Raceday Stewards enquired into an incident before the turn into the straight involving Dancing Tango, ridden by Mr J.L. Gleeson, placed fifth, Joupe, ridden by Mr F. Maguire, unplaced, Last Ammo, ridden by Mr E.P

O'Brien, unplaced, Burren Song, ridden by Mr A.P. Ryan, placed fourth, Travel On (GB), ridden by Miss A.B

O'Connor, unplaced, and March Law, ridden by Mr J. Kelly Smith, unplaced, where it appeared that Last Ammo clipped a heel. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. In his evidence, Mr E.P. O'Brien stated that he had nowhere to go and his mount clipped a heel when horses were dropping back. Miss A.B. O'Connor stated that she was holding her line but her mount was dropping back at this point of the race. Mr J. Kelly Smith stated that his mount was hard to hold and he switched out to avoid a horse dropping back and clipped a heel. Mr F. Maguire, Mr A.P. Ryan and Mr J.L. Gleeson all stated that they did not suffer any interference. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards did not apportion any blame to any rider and they took no further action.

An extended handicap for four years old and upwards (80 = 12st)
Penalties - (after calculation of the handicap) A winner shall carry 7lb extra for each race won.
Riders - Qualified Riders under I.N.H.S. Rules. Riders will receive allowances under Rule 52 in this race Top weight after the time of declaration shall not be less than 12st and the minimum weight is 10st 7lb
