The Gavin Cromwell trained The Passing Wife registered his third success in that division when justifying favouritism in the final race of the 2024 Galway festival, the Fr. Breen Memorial(Pro/Am) Flat Race.
A former point-to-point winner, the five-year-old carried penalties here having scored under rules at Punchestowntown and Bellewstown respectively.
Tracking the pace in the initial stages as Pure Logic took the eight runners along, Declan Lavery went in pursuit entering the straight.
Getting to the leaders over a furlong out, the 11/10f kept on to win by four-and-a-quarter lengths.
Gavin Cromwell: “It was grand performance with the weight, he lengthened away well.
“He was entered in a maiden hurdle yesterday and we said we’d have a look at the bumper. He’ll go hurdling now.
“The last day in Bellewstown was plenty quick enough for him and he’d have no problem on winter ground
“It’s been a long week with no winner and some of the horses definitely ran below par. I was thinking last night of taking a few of them out today but I said we’d take our chance and it’s nice to get a winner.”
