Supasundae powered away from Silver Concorde to win the Paddy Power Maiden Hurdle in Leopardstown for Henry de Bromhead and Johnny Burke.
Silver Concorde was backed down from 11/10 to 10/11 to oblige and doubtless would have gone a lot shorter in-running as he began to reel in Supasundae after the penultimate hurdle.
Supasundae came off the bridle entering the straight but picked up well for Burke and Silver Concorde was soon toiling in his pursuit of the leader.
A great jump at the last sealed victory as Supasundae kept up the gallop to win decisively by 13 lengths at 5/2.
Silver Concorde could make no impression in second. He finished three and a quarter lengths ahead of third-placed Captain Barbossa (7/1).
Henry de Bromhead said: "He was very green in Gowran and it has taken him time to learn jumping. He was better today and has gears.
"I thought it was a savage run in the Cheltenham bumper where he led until about a furlong down. I don't think he needs too much racing as he disappointed at Punchestown last season.
"Ultimately I'd like to go to the Supreme Novices Hurdle and he could come back here for the Grade One over two miles two furlongs before that. He has a real engine and is an exciting horse."
On Sizing John, who was beaten 18 lengths into second by Douvan in the Grade One novice chase at Leopardstown yesterday, de Bromhead said: "Douvan did to him exactly what he did on heavy ground at Gowran last year. I haven't taught him how to swim yet!
"In fairness to the horse he jumped brilliant and showed real heart to keep going. Last year he won the Grade One at Leopardstown over Christmas and didn't run until Cheltenham and we have decided to do that again. Obviously he has to be a lot better on better ground to give him a chance and he will be entered for both the Arkle and the JLT."
Paddy Power cut Supasundae from 33/1 to 25/1 for the Supreme Novices' Hurdle.
