Willie McCreery’s Nitro Boost (8/1, from 11s on course) upset some higher-rated rivals to land the Listed Abergwaun Stakes over the straight 5f in the hands of Billy Lee.
The daughter of Dandy Man was always prominent towards the stands’ side, and just held the fast-finishing Rapid Reaction (16/1) by a nose, with the 3/1 favourite Urban Beat another length and a half away in third.
Those drawn closer to the stands’ rail appeared to have an edge over their rivals, with the ground possibly a shade quicker on that part of the sprint track.
It was a third career success for the winner, who had scored in a valuable handicap at the Curragh in June.
“She was Listed placed behind Lethal Promise in Cork. It’s great for the (Imperial Crown) syndicate from Russia, and she will stay here to be covered, said the winning trainer McCreery.
“I’m delighted to get the win. The horses have been hitting the post, and the other filly (Jungle Jane) ran a blinder as well and just got tired. She hasn’t run for a year and a half. She showed a lot of early pace and would hate that ground.”
