Denis Hogan often combines with success in the training and riding role and he did it again with 14/1 shot Mezajy in the Byrne Marquees Handicap Hurdle at Bellewstown.
Hogan rode and trained The Irregular to victory at Kilbeggan last Friday night, and indeed he accomplished the same feat with Mezajy at the midlands venue in July.
After Mezajy held the staying on Youngnedofthehill by a length and three parts today Hogan said: "He did it well. He had good form on good ground and the ground suited him lovely. He ran a good race in Kilbeggan on that ground.
"Galway had gone too bad for him but, Galway being Galway, everyone wanted to run.
"He was probably overpriced today, I couldn't believe it. I told the boys I would have been happy if he was half the price (of 14/1).
"He'll be entered in Listowel but he'll only go there if it is good.
"John Mahon in the syndicate is a Longford man based in New York. He is represented by his son John today."
The Stewards fined David Peter Dunne, trainer, €350 for lodging a passport in respect of Pretty Little Liar in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91.
The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer's written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.
