Trainer Ado McGuinness registered a first Group winner on grass at Tipperary today as his Current Option scored a short-head win in the featured Group 3 Coolmore US Navy Flag Concorde Stakes under jockey Gavin Ryan.
Current Option provided McGuinness with a first career Listed win at Cork on August 8, before his Bowerman set the bar higher with a Group 3 all-weather win, in the Diamond Stakes at Dundalk on September 25.
Today Current Option made it three Stakes winners in as many months for the north Dublin trainer, as the son of Camelot edged out runner-up Laughifuwant by a short head.
It has taken McGuinness two decades to become an overnight success and he later quipped “that's my first Group winner on the grass; it's so easy after 20 years!
“This is brilliant and is great for the lads; this horse keeps improving and we've had so much fun with him. It is great for the Dooley brothers in England and the late Bart O'Sullivan was a great supporter too and only for them I wouldn't be here.
“He wasn't a cheap horse (85,000gns at Tattersalls in July 2019) but he has well and truly covered himself long before today and today we are in bonus territory.
“We'll see what's on the agenda in Ireland but more than likely he will go out foreign to the the middle east for some of their festivals. We haven't killed him with racing this year either way and we'll sit back and think about things now.”
