It hadn't all gone to plan for Maontri since her four-in-a-row at Dundalk in 2014 as her owner/trainer/breeder Matty Tynan explained on At The Races prior to her Leicester success last time. Well the Catcher In The Rye mare is back now as she followed up under Ian Queally in the Sligo GAA Raceday August 18th Fillies Handicap.
After making the running it looked ominous for Maontri when she was headed by the nicely-supported 5/1 shot Glimmer Of Peace entering the straight.
However she fought back to lead again inside the last before crossing the line three parts of a length to the good from the strong-finishing Perfect Fit The solid favourite Belezza Oscura (5/2) had to make do with fourth place.
"It's a long way up and we're delighted. She's a dream mare," commented Tynan after his first winner at Sligo.
"We had a filly called Like A Dream a few years ago who won six for us and she's after winning six now as well.
"We knew today would be a tough race when we saw the betting and she went out to 5/1 - that's when I backed her!
"We'd like to win a premier handicap with her if she's able. After Dundalk she hurt her pelvis and we were in a bit of trouble with her so we gave her time.
"In fairness to her she battled back well today and is a real good mare. I'd like a couple more like her.
"We don't really make plans. We'll get her home and see how she is and then pick a race for her."
