Jack Kearney made most of the running on the Ger Lyons trained Best Law to win the Support The Irish Injured Jockeys Fund Apprentice Handicap at Gowran Park.

A winner over further at Killarney in July, the Aclaim gelding ran well in a big field handicap at the Galway festival on his next start, before winning a Rated Race at Tramore.

However, having run below par at Naas last time, he was sent off 5/1 here in a bid to recapture his best form.

Prominent from stalls, Kearney was soon in front, setting steady fractions before finding plenty for pressure when challenged by Bright N Shine over a furlong out.

Staying on strongly inside the final furlong, the Gaelic Thoroughbreds owned winner prevailed by a length.

Assistant trainer Andrew Duff said: “It was a lovely ride from Jack, he did exactly what he was told and he knows the horse.

“He got to dictate in front and all he does is grind it out. It was pretty much a carbon copy of the ride Gary (Carroll) gave him in Tramore.

“He's a work in progress but he's doing the job and we're delighted for Phil Burns, who sourced him. It's great for him to get another winner.

“He got badly struck into the last day in Naas so that wasn't his true running.”
