Crafted Jewel was a very strong order in the betting for the concluding Coral.ie Bet & Watch Irish And UK Racing Live Median Auction Maiden at Cork. She eventually went off a 4/5 chance and ran out a convincing winner in the hands of Gary Carroll. Handcrafted was lugging away from the rail and Sheila Lavery's Crafted Jewel went for home from that one from a couple of furlongs out. Boca Raton and Admodum were soon in pursuit but were never likely to really get to grips with Crafted Jewel, who was three and a quarter lengths and a neck up at the finish.
"That is a big relief and she deserved to win today," said Ms Lavery.
"Her form has really stood up and Gary (Carroll) says she is a black-type filly.
"We'll look at the calendar and look for a Listed race around a mile to a mile and a quarter. Gary said she won with her ears pricked and loved that ground.
"She is a very big filly but was always well furnished - she eats and sleeps!"
S. Foley, rider of Handcrafted, trained by John Joseph Murphy, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount hung badly left handed in the closing stages.
D.M. Redmond, rider of Saga The First trained by James M. Barrett, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount tired in the final furlong and hung badly left handed.
