Hughes completes treble with Quiet
Dessie Hughes completed a 70/1 treble when the well-backed Quiet Thought took full advantage of a pile-up at the second last to land the Thurles Mares Maiden Hurdle.
Backed from 2/1 down to 11/8 favourite, Bryan Cooper's mount was left to fight it out with Academy Rose after leader Apalachicola crashed out at the penultimate flight bringing down Sanforized (still travelling well at the time), Fairly Definite and Phar From Fashion
The market leader stayed on well from the last drawing clear to score by five and a half lengths from Academy Rose, the pair pulling 14 lengths clear of Ros Brin in third.
Hughes was earlier on the mark with Rick and Western Charmer both ridden by Paddy Flood.
“She suffered some trouble in running the last day at Punchestown and was knocked back before the straight. She ran well in bumpers, and always looked like winning a mares maiden hurdle at least. Hopefully she can get some black type at some stage,” said Hughes.
