Caution Came rattling home in the final furlong of the mile handicap and swamped Beechmount Whisper close home to give Mick Halford and Shane Foley a double on Navan's card.
Beechmount Whisper, the 5/2 favourite, travelled sweetly into the home straight just off Royal County Boy He took over with more than two furlongs left and set sail for home under Colm O'Donoghue.
At the two marker Foley and Caution were in 11th place with the jockey hard at work. Caution really began to pick up with a furlong and a half to go and arrived at the one pole in fourth on the outside.
Beechmount Whisper was still leading but was mowed down with less than 50 yards to the post. Caution prevailed by half a length at 8/1. Love Letter (11/1) was a length and a quarter behind the favourite in third.
Mick Halford said: "I probably shouldn't have run him on the bad ground at Sligo and we probably made a bit much use of him.
"I've only got him this year and we're really only learning about him. We took our time with him after Sligo and have been riding him differently in his work at home. He's been working well and always showed us plenty of ability.
"Shane rode him really well there. They went hard and he relaxed him before pulling him out. He preferred that better ground.
"He's a big scopey horse and will keep improving. He'll go on to do better things I hope."
