Gold leads home Murphy 1,2
Trainer John Murphy recorded a 1,2 in the third race of the evening at Killarney, the Corcoran's Furniture & Carpets Handicap, as Goldplated (9/2) under Kevin Manning led home the first reserve Summer Glow
The winning daughter of Selkirk, flew home at Tramore in May but could get to the winner on that occasion, Kildare Kitten before the post. She then showed that run was no flash in the pan, as she scored comfortably at Limerick last time out under Samantha Bell.
She again showed her quick turn of foot here leading from two furlongs out, fending off her stable mate by a two and a half lengths at the finish.
The runner-up Summer Glow was well supported with punters being backed from 8/1 into 4/1 favourite before the off. She didn't get much luck in running around the bottom turns and was switched over two furlongs out.
From there however, she had every chance but couldn't peg back the winner. Llew Law put in a career best performance to finish a further three and a half lengths back in third at 25/1 for treble seeking Ken Condon.
Winning trainer John Murphy said afterwards: "She is progressive, I was a bit worry about the ground but I thought it would be a lot quicker that it actually is.
"She wasn't travelling early on and that could have been down to the ground, I think the handicapper has probably caught up with her now.
"That was Kevin's (Kevin Manning) first winner for me."
