Girl has bookies running for cover
The bookies were left reeling again in the first division of the Red Mills Handicap at Roscommon as Dearest Girl hit them for the second race running.
Charles O'Brien 's charge was hammered from 8/1 into 3/1 on the track, eventually going off 7/2 favourite.
She was produced to lead a furlong out by Fran Berry and asserted in the closing stages to record a length-and-a-half victory over Melodie D'Amour
The Galileo filly had been placed in a maiden here last season and was unlucky in running on her return to action at Dundalk last month.
"She's a big filly and it has taken her a long time to grow into herself," said O'Brien afterwards.
"She was going to run well at Dundalk last time but got annihilated in the straight. We'll look for something similar."
