On start number two Ballydoyle's General Macarthur was second market-choice behind Michael O'Callaghan's well-touted newcomer, Blue De Vega for the www.dundalkstadium.com Maiden. However Aidan and Joseph O'Brien's War Front colt proved best out on the track in the seven furlong event.
Leopardstown fifth placer General Macarthur came through to lead two furlongs out, having chased the leaders, and he kept the Weld and Smullen hope, A Likely Story at bay by half a length.
The aforementioned Blue De Vega suggested that his turn won't be long delayed. He missed the break and didn't get a clear run two furlongs out, before keeping on for third place, three parts of a length adrift.
"He was fierce green the first day but was much better today," explained the winning rider.
"He probably got to the front a bit soon and that's why he was idling. We think he's a nice colt, and hopefully he can improve."
