The regally bred Centroid got his career off to a winning start when landing the odds in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden at Leopardstown.

The half-brother to last season’s champion filly Enable was sent off the 4/5 favourite in this 1m2f event and duly landed the odds in convincing fashion under Declan McDonogh.

The Dermot Weld-trained colt led about a furlong out and kept on well in the closing stages to beat Leaderboard by two lengths, with National Wealth a further neck back in third.

Weld said, “He’s still a big baby of a horse and very immature but has the potential to make into a very nice horse. He’s been slow coming to hand but I believe patience will pay dividends with this horse.

“I’ve no definite plans but we’ll see how he progresses. I’ll speak with Lord Grimthorpe and see how he comes out of the race and go from there.

“Potentially you would hope he will be a Stakes horse later in the year. He would appreciate a lot more ease than he had today but it was time to run him.”

Weld and McDonogh were completing a double having earlier teamed up to take the Fitzers Catering Handicap with Betsey Trotter
