Dime A Dozen cheers up the 'Shark'

Doubtless disappointed with the turn of events in Croke Park, 'Shark’ Hanlon had a nice ending to the afternoon when his very consistent Dime a Dozen (5/2) made all and toughed it out well to win the last event of the August festival, the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares’ INH Flat Race.

Tom Hamilton’s mount, a daughter of Jeremy, has only been out of the first two once in five runs in point-to-points and another five in bumpers, and even that time she finished third.

She likes to get on with things, and although the newcomer Lady Moon (11/2) challenged inside the final furlong, the winner was not for passing and scored by three quarters of a length. The 6/5 favourite Skyace only a head behind Dime a Dozen when they were placed at Galway, was a further eight lengths back in third on this occasion.

The winning rider Tom Hamilton remarked afterwards: "She is a lovely mare and is very tough and hardy. She won two point to points and has been knocking on the door in bumpers and deserved to win that.

"She is a lovely mare going forward and whatever she does now, she will be ten times better for a fence or hurdle later on as she is so good to jump.

"Shark is up in Dublin for the hurling match."
