The Joe Murphy trained Consonance was a week 'late' in gaining his Gowran win today, landing the Gowran Park Golf Club Handicap, seven days after failing to land a gamble at the Co Kilkenney venue.
Ridden by Niall McCullagh today, the son of Chineur was backed into favourite before meeting trouble in-running and finishing well beaten at the track a week ago. Today, however he went unsupported at 12/1 (from 9s) but stayed on well for a half length win over Moonbi Creek
Murphy was represented by his son and namesake who later stated “he was dropped 12lbs over the winter and was a bit unlucky here last week when something came across him just when he was making his run.
“It's a pity Pat Smullen couldn't ride him today as he was suspended; Pat said after he came in last week that he'd win the next day.”
Suspended Smullen had also missed riding the winner of the opener, the Dermot Weld trained Tested
