Concorde takes off in the opener

Sun 11th Jan 2009, 13:02

Majestic Concorde opened his account over fences at the first attempt when taking the 2m1f beginners chase in the hands of Robbie McNamara.

The Dermot Weld-trained gelding, winner of the GPT Amateur Handicap at the Galway Festival last summer, was backed from 9/2 into 7/2 and reeled in the front-running Coscorrig after the last to score by six lengths.

'He's a good ground horse and we have no definite plans at this stage. It's nice first time over fences to see him come and do it well,' commented Weld.
