Relegate capped a marvelous weekend for all-conquering Champion Trainer Willie Mullins with a win in the concluding race of the Dublin Festival at Leopardstown today, the Coolmore N.H. Sires EBF Mares Bumper.
Relegate, under Katie Walsh, was the lesser fancied of a pair of Mullins runners in the race and while Colreevy managed third place, Relegate caused a 16/1 upset when beating Getaway Katie Mai by a length and a half.
Mulllins, who had four winners yesterday and was registering his third today with Relegate, later commented “we'll be looking at all the mares' bumpers for her and there's a Graded bumper for her at Sandown which could be the race for her next. However that run was also good enough for me to go to Cheltenham because she has improved so much from her first run to her second run and I'm expecting her to improve more.
“We've no decision made although we have a better mare than we thought we had now.”
Mullins, who won seven of the 15 races on offer at the two day festival and has now been cut to 11/10 to retain his Trainers' Championship (Gordon Elliott is 4/6f), added “Colreevy (beaten favourite and third placed) pulled too hard and was too free - that's what Patrick said to me.”
