Best gains due reward
Nans Best gained reward for his consistency when taking the two-mile handicap hurdle at Gowran Park.
Mick Darcy sent the Liam McAteer-trained gelding on turning for home and he stuck on well to score by a length-and-three-parts from Bob Will Fix It
"I'm delighted for the horse. He was entered for Doncaster last month after a couple of disappointing runs on the Flat," said McAteer.
"He had a slight infection though the day before and was taken out with a vets cert.
"I said to (owner) Mr Cosgrove that he would win over hurdles if we just had a bit of patience and he won well today.
"I was a bit worried about the 7lb he picked up between his two runs at Punchestown. I thought that could be his undoing.
"They went no gallop at Punchestown last time and he pulled too hard. Now that he's got his head in front he might win another one.
"I'm lucky enough to have had a couple of good horses for Mr (Frank) Cosgrove.
"This horse will go chasing and I've no doubt he'll make a nice chaser. He'll run again over hurdles at Christmas. Probably either Down Royal or Limerick."
