I was confident enough with the way the weather was going that something would pull out. He was in good order at home. I know he was on the back of a bad run over fences, but he doesn't jump fences as well (as hurdles), he's just a bit deliberate at them and he's losing ground at every fence. We just made the decision we would stick to the hurdles going forward. We put the blinkers on him and applied more positive tactics, and Mark gave him a lovely ride there. He got a nice run up the inner and it was probably the winning of the race. We were at the right end of the handicap and took the five off him. We will see what the handicapper does, he was up around the 123/124 before and kind of struggled a little bit. When you win that kind of a pot, you will take your penalty.

myself and Mark (McDonagh, jockey) had a chat earlier, we had both walked the track and there was a strip on the inner and told Mark to stick around there. He got in trouble around the bottom bend but did it to perfection. I fancied him coming if he got his ground, and he battled well. Driving down it was raining solid from Waterford and I thought our chance was gone so was surprised how good the ground was when I walked it. I was confident he'd leave the Galway run behind him as he didn't handle the track. We'll stick left-handed and he'll rock on to the Listowel Hurdle now — he has course form there. Mark's parents are here today and that's important and is great to see. You'd like to see more of a crowd but we'll get there eventually.

He's not with me that long, about six weeks or two months and came out of Enda Bolger's. I'm delighted to have him and he is a lovely horse who showed a bit of form in point-to-points. With the way the ballot situation is at the moment, we entered him up thinking he'd be balloted out but he got in, and thought two miles might be a little short for him. I told Mark to be positive on him and he was very professional and with a step up in trip there might be more to come. He'll go for the summer and there is a 2m4f novice at the Galway festival for him and he'll improve for the run. It is Mark's 20th birthday today and his Mam is here as an owner today so they're delighted.
