It is always a great thrill to win the Thyestes, but I think that was Paul Townend's victory. The ride he gave him - he had two horses behind him with a circuit to race and kept wide out of trouble, puts huge pressure on a jockey but he loves pressure and rides better with pressure. He has been off sick the past two days but to come back and give a ride like that is a tremendous achievement and he rushed off to get a drink just now. It was as fine a ride as I ever saw around here to win a Thyestes with that sort of weight. I thought after the third-last that his winning chance had gone but he sat and sat, gave him a breather, got a good jump at the last and I thought it was fantastic riding. He was obviously very sick the last two days so to come back and ride a race like that was huge in my mind.

He makes hard work of it. That’s twice he’s been taken out of a race with what appeared race ending mistakes but has come back. He stays all day and his jumping is generally safe. That will be good experience for him. He doesn’t look the fastest but I think he has more speed than he looks at least over that sort of trip. . He’s qualified now for the National Hunt Chase at Cheltenham and it looks like that’s where he’ll go. I think better ground won’t inconvenience him over a trip.

this race wasn’t the plan and I wanted to get experience into him because he missed running at Leopardstown. He was careful when he needed to be and got some good jumps when Paul wanted him. He learned a lot today and we are very happy with him. He didn’t get too hard a race there. I hadn’t planned running at the Dublin Racing Festival but maybe he could go for something just after that, before Cheltenham. The way he went around there the National Hunt Chase would be right up his street but we have to keep the RSA open as well. I’d like to get another run into him before then and the Ten Up at Navan is a possibility. I often think it’s too near Cheltenham but this fella doesn’t take too much out of himself racing.

He was entitled to do that and you can see from looking at him there is a bit more to come from him. He made a few novicey mistakes but his class got him through today.

He's improved since Christmas. He did it the hard way and did it well,. He's just bought a ticket, I'd say, to go across the water on that performance. We'll see how he comes out of it. He's certainly gone on the short list now. After winning at two-and-a-half I wasn't so sure that he would be able to switch back to two on drier ground. It shows that he's better than I thought he was at Christmas.

We bought him at the sales in Cheltenham after Katie Walsh recommended him highly to us. She was right and we're very pleased it worked out,. He looks an out-and-out stayer as they went a huge gallop. I have to give him a crack at a winners bumper rather than go hurdling now and chasing next year. He could be an Albert Bartlett horse for next year. That's the sort of road I'd be aiming at. There were a lot of fancied horses there and he made them look ordinary. He gallops all day and he's not the slowest horse either. I was very pleased with him.
