He went quite fast and I thought he ran a bit free. As a result he got a bit tired at the end. It was nice to use his rating over hurdles and get a win (rated 119 over hurdles). I'm not sure what the plan is now to be honest this was the plan. It's possible I might give him a proper break now if he shows the signs of needing it. We've had him in a long time.

He's a very difficult horse to train but I felt he was never as fit or as well recently,. He can be very hard on himself at home but I felt he was really well coming here. He had a great run in Killarney and did a lap of the track afterwards! My only worry was whether he would hold his form as he's had a long season. Mark Walsh gave him a peach of a ride as he can be a difficult horse to ride. My son David has been riding him at home and has done a good job on him. You have to have a lot of luck in the race and he was off the bridle early. I said then any mistake and he could go back and throw the towel in as he's that kind of horse. He had a good couple of jumps early and got into it sneakily. Mark knows him very well and it was great to get him as he wouldn't have had a chance without him.

We fancied him in the Thyestes but he lost his way a bit. Maybe we didn't train him as hard in order to freshen him up and he was definitely fresher today. He was due one of these as he won a good beginners chase here in January of last year. He's a bit of a head-banger . he was to be ridden up there . there is no talking to him if he wants to go on.

they gave him a bit of a lead at the start but he won well in the end. We'll see what J.P. (McManus, owner) and Frank (Berry, racing manager) say now before making plans.

I was probably a bit disappointed the last day, but I'd say he learned a lot more in that race than he did here today and that stood to him. He pulled up a fresh horse which surprised me considering the ground conditions and there maybe more to come. I always thought he was a good ground horse but Davy [Russellsaid he floated on that stuff out there today. So as far as I'm concerned he goes on all ground.
