R.P. Cleary, rider of Double Fast trained by Thomas Cleary, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount was slowly away. The Stewards enquired into possible interference in the closing stages of this race involving Midnitemudcrabs, ridden by Paul J Jones, placed fifth, My Painter, ridden by J.A. Heffernan, placed sixth and Maison Bleu (GB), ridden by P.J. Smullen, placed third, where it appeared that My Painter ran short of room and was forced to check. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards felt that there was insufficient evidence to take further action. The Stewards requested a report from Ms. Sheila Lavery, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Empress Lyla, placed first, as compared with its recent form. Ms. Lavery was of the opinion that Empress Lyla ran flat on her last run in Killarney and that her previous run in Galway caught up on her. Ms. Lavery rested Empress Lyla for the week following Killarney which benefitted her charge for today's run. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the contents of the report.
