An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Feel The Pinch (GB), ridden by Connor Brace and trained by Fergal O'Brien, which after being very slowly into stride, made headway to join up with the rest of the field after the first hurdle, before then appearing to be tenderly handled from approaching the home bend, to finish tenth, beaten by 21¾ lengths.
The rider and the trainer were interviewed and shown recordings of the race; the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding, during routine testing shortly after the race, failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The rider stated his instructions had been to drop Feel The Pinch (GB) in and settle the gelding with a view to getting Feel The Pinch (GB) to finish its race off as the gelding has a history of being keen at home.
He added that after whipping round at the start and forfeiting many lengths, Feel The Pinch (GB) had raced keenly throughout due to being unable to obtain cover.
He added that the gelding had come off the bridle at the end of the back straight and jumped poorly in the home straight.
He therefore felt it prudent to hold Feel The Pinch (GB) together.
The trainer confirmed the instructions and stated that he was satisfied the ride accorded with those instructions, adding that Feel The Pinch (GB) had also been very keen in the preliminaries.
Their explanations were noted.
After the second-last hurdle, Shady Character (GB), unplaced, hung quickly left-handed, hampering Secret Court (IRE), placed fourth, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
