The winner, Despereaux (FR), appeared to show improved form, compared with its previous run at Chepstow on 6 November 2024, where the gelding finished tenth of eighteen, beaten by 41½ lengths.
Mrs Jane Williams’ representative’s explanation that the gelding appreciated the step up in trip from 2 miles 3½ furlongs to 3 miles on this occasion, in a less competitive race and also benefitted from the application of first-time cheek pieces, was noted.
Despereaux (FR) was routine tested.
Following the race, Finn Lambert reported that Bits N Pieces (IRE), which was pulled up, jumped poorly.
Henry Daly reported that Extra Cover (GB), which was pulled up, was never travelling after being unable to obtain a prominent early position.
The Veterinary Officer reported that Elfride (GB), placed fourth, had bled from the nose.
