The winner, Patroclus (IRE), appeared to show improved form compared with its previous run at Newbury on 29 December 2021, where the gelding was pulled up on going described as Soft, Heavy in places.
Nicky Henderson’s representative explained that Patroclus (IRE) had appreciated the quicker ground conditions of Good, Good to Firm in places on this occasion.
Patroclus (IRE) was routine tested.
The performance of Family Business (FR), which finished last of five runners, beaten by 23¾ lengths was considered.
The Stewards noted Richard Hobson’s explanation that the gelding was unsuited by the going, which was officially described as Good, Good to Firm in places on this occasion, and would prefer a slower surface.
Richard Hobson further added that as a result Family Business (FR) could not quicken with the field when the tempo increased after jumping the second last fence.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of Family Business (FR) failed to reveal any abnormalities.
