An enquiry was held to an incident approaching the second last flight when MR FIZTROY (IRE), placed third, ridden by James Davies, appeared to lose action and stumble on the final approach to the hurdle, causing it to make contact with and move Crystal Lad (FR), placed sixth, off its intended line.
Davies was interviewed and shown recordings of the incident.
Davies explained that he had reported at Scales that he thought Mr Fitzroy (IRE) had put his foot in a hole on the approach to the hurdle, but having reviewed the incident he considered that the gelding had lost action behind causing him to stumble badly in front.
He added that despite stumbling, he felt Mr Fitzroy (IRE) regain his action enough to jump the flight and, thereafter, he was satisfied that the gelding was moving well enough to complete the race.
Subsequently, the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of Mr Fitzroy (IRE) failed to reveal any abnormalities, and the Clerk of the Course reported that the ground in front of the hurdle had been examined following the race whereby no issues were identified.
